Vladimir Kush's life embraced
art from an early age. His father, a
scientist, had a passion for drawing.
Vladimir recalls how he used to
sit on his father's lap fi nishing his
drawings. Vladimir attended art
school at the age of seven, along with
his elementary school studies. He
used to do his homework while riding
the subway to the special school. By
the time he was 17, he had entered
the esteemed Moscow Art Institute.
His formal training was rather
classical, but eventually his talent
manifested itself in the style described
as "Metaphorical Realism."
Vladimir Kush is now featured
in more than 20 galleries worldwide.
Maui's Front Street Gallery in Lahaina
is Vladimir Kush's fi rst and largest
artist-owned gallery. Maui is special to
the artist, and he spends most of the
year working from his home on the
island. The rest of his time is spent
traveling extensively. He is always
looking for "proofs" of his ideas in
different part of the world. Many
months and sometimes years go into
the thought process that eventually
manifests itself into a new painting.
When viewing a Kush painting,
take note that each painting includes
at least one carefully thought out
visual metaphor or double meaning.
The metaphors often refer to a myth,
or scientifi c thought, or even a work
of literature. The viewer is invited to
contemplate old metaphors in new
ways and make previously unexplored
connections. Enter the realm of
metaphysical visions and dreams,
meeting Flaming Rose and Greening
Nero. Explore the mysterious Garden
of Eden and take hop aboard a magic
butterfl y ship. Vladimir Kush will take
you on a journey to a world of symbols,
full of myth and poetry.
Besides painting, Kush also creates
sculptures, drawings, and designs
jewelry. Kush Fine Art has published
three books with his artwork. The
books contain poems and text, inspired
by the paintings and written by the
artist's uncle and father Michael
Kush and Oleg Kush. These men
had an important infl uence on the
artist's life. It was his father that taught
Vladimir that, "the plot of a painting
must be like a code for solving a task,
and as such must be clear as crystal to
capture the essence of a subject."
